Word Studies for the Week of September 8, 2019

September 8th ● 13th Sunday After Pentecost ● God’s Voice: The Call ● Jeremiah 1:4-10

What does the word “prophet” mean to you? What type of person comes to mind? Are they only people of
the past?

Do you believe that everyone has a God given calling or just some of us? What things has God called you
to do and be?

Jeremiah feels his youth and inexperience are a barrier to him following God’s call for him. Is his view
warranted? What might it mean that God chooses a young and inexperienced person to deliver his
message?

What does God say to Jeremiah to help him overcome his trepidation? Why is this message not only
important to Jeremiah but every person of faith?

Jeremiah describes God touching him as part of the call to be a prophet. Why is the act of touching
important in this case or in similar circumstances?

Read Jeremiah 1:9-10 what will actually accomplish the work God is sending Jeremiah to do? Will it be
under Jeremiah’s control.

Describe in your own words what they call of Jeremiah actually is. How would you describe the joys and
challenges of the task God set before him?
