Word Studies for the Week of January 27, 2019
January 27 ● Epiphany 3 – The More Excellent Way: Interdependence ● 1 Corinthians 12:12-31
How well do you maintain a healthy tension between your individual responsibility and your responsibility to larger groups like your church, community, nation and world?
What does the word membership mean to you? How do you think Paul is using the term in 1 Corinthians 12:12 does his implied meaning correlate with yours?
Paul says “the members of the body that seem weaker are indispensable” what might be some overlooked gifts in our community that we should perhaps value more?
Paul also says that all suffer with the body when one suffers, is this always the case in your experience? Or is perhaps Paul asking us to consider how an ideal community should function?
See the list of those appointed by God for various functions of the Body of Christ in 1 Corinthians 12:28; which ones are still around today? Which are no longer really talked about? Which appointments might you add today to reflect our church’s current situation?
What gifts do you wish you had that you see work well in others? What things would you say you are really good at? Do you use these gifts for God’s work?
