December 9 ● Advent 2 – Anticipating God: Hoping ● Malachi 3:1-4
What is the first thing you would change in the world if you could?
According to Malachi 3:1 when the messenger comes, where will God be found? What might that say about what the people of Israel are hoping for?
Malachi says that the people of Israel delight in the covenant, what might that mean? Have you ever thought about your own faith life in such terms? What aspects might you delight in?
The messenger is described by Malachi and as powerful and maybe even scary. Why might this be important to help give hope to the people waiting for God to come?
Malachi uses two images for the messenger, soap that cleans wool and the refiner’s fire. What do these things do? What do they have in common?
What things in our life today need to be brought back to their original purpose? How have they gotten off track?
The messenger says that the offering of Judah will be pleasing to God again, what might that mean? Are there times where our faith practices might not be doing God’s work or pleasing to him?
