Word Studies for the Week of April 14, 2019

April 14 ● Palm and Passion Sunday – Discipleship 101: The Passion of Christ ● Luke 23:1-29

How does the story of the cross make you feel? Describe in your own words what God is doing in the cross of Christ.

What makes an act of sacrifice worth it for you? How do you measure its effectiveness?

Have you ever made a painful sacrifice? What was it for? Did your faith help you endure it? If so, how?

Do you know God’s plan for your life? If so how would you describe it? (Avoid standard church or theological terms)

In Luke 23 we see several people trying to use the situation of Jesus to their advantage; think about what Pilate, Herod, Barabbas, the religious leaders, and the crowd hoped to gain personally from Jesus execution. What were their motives?

Many people mockingly asked Jesus to save himself, why didn’t Jesus do it?

What does Luke 23:42-43 communicate about what is going on in the death of Jesus on the cross?
