God’s Work Our Hands Sunday
Holy Cross and Calvary Partner to help school children with food insecurity
This year’s God’s Work Our Hands project is centered on relieving food insecurity, with particular focus on supporting children who would normally receive healthy meals at school, but are now learning virtually.
We will be using tote bags to assemble non-perishable family meal kits and donating them to Cranford Family Care and the Community Food Bank of NJ – Hillside.
While we will have a portion of the food items donated ahead of time, we are asking each congregation family to please donate one item from each of the six groups in the diagram below (remember no glass please!). This will help us ensure we have a good mix of items for the kits. There will be someone at the front of the Narthex of the main sanctuary to collect donations on Saturday, Sept. 12th from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm, and on Sunday, Sept 13th from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
We know not everyone will be comfortable gathering to assemble the kits, but for those who are, We’ll be joining Pastor Knecht and the Holy Cross congregation for a short social distanced prayer service at 10:30 am.
Weather permitting, we will stage tables in the courtyard at least 6 ft apart where families can assemble the kits and have some distanced socializing. Please be sure to bring your mask. If it is raining, we will postpone the kit assembly until the following Sunday and try again! We know this is short notice, so we’ll also collect any additional donations from 9:00 am to 10:30 am on Sept. 20th.
